MacClade
is a computer program for phylogenetic analysis written by David
Maddison and Wayne Maddison. Its analytical strength is in studies
of character evolution. It also provides many tools for entering
and editing data and phylogenies, and for producing tree diagrams
and charts.
MacClade and the new Intel Macs
MacClade apparently runs fine on the new Intel Macs, and under the
newer operating systems; we have not encountered problems, nor
have we heard of any problems. If any of you encounter problems,
please contact us. (MacClade has not yet been rebuilt to run
natively on the new Intel Macs, but that should not matter.)
A number of you have older MacClade discs (containing MacClade
4.03 or before), and have written to us stating that you cannot
install MacClade on your newer Intel Macs, and thus cannot
then use the updaters to upgrade
it to an OS X version. As MacClade installation consists of
simply dragging the MacClade folder to your hard disk, you
can in fact install older versions of MacClade. The problem
is that you can't run those versions of MacClade
on an Intel Mac, but you don't need to run the program to update
it. Here's what you will need to do if you don't have an OS
X version of MacClade:
- move the PPC version onto your hard disk
- use the old updaters to update your copy to 4.06
- use the new updaters to update 4.06 to 4.08
MacClade 4.08 is available
MacClade 4.08 is available, including a version for
MacOS X. It has a number of new tools, including
some for sequence alignment. Check out the MacClade
Updater
page for more information.
